During this crazy month (I am attempting to keep up with NanoWriMo and getting into the swing of this homeschooling thing) I will be giving a lot of thought to where I want this blog to go. I never had any goals when I started, I don’t feel like I belong in any “niche” but I do need a little more focus and direction.
Blog Bash!!
Hey, ya’ll! This is Amanda aka Mommylebron. I’m participating in Not Your Average Teen’s Blog Bash! (Bash as in super awesome party, not “Sally’s blog is so icky because she has this awful green gingham background and she writes about her kid’s boogers and her husband’s nocturnal gas emissions”-just to clarify) In case you’ve never been here before I’d like to tell you a little bit about me! The Basics: I am married to one lucky SOB who has had the pleasure of my company for 14+ years. I am the mother to 3 minions. The Details: I am a preschool teacher during the school year, SAHM during the summer. I’ve always walk the SAHM/WOTH line. I’ve always worked in child care so my kids have always been with me (until they started “big school”). My youngest (and only daughter) has Bipolar Disorder and this is a big part of our lives. The Awesomeness: I scrap book (I even make custom books for other people), I run an online support group for parents of children with Bipolar Disorder, I write (not just this little blog that I love; I’m working on my first book), I am a Flybaby, and I pretty much rock it in the kitchen! And now for the mandatory and probing questions :
1. Why do you blog? I stumbled on to blogging by accident. I noticed the links in a bunch of my Twitter friend’s profiles and I got curious. After reading a few I was so excited. I have so many ideas and I love to “spin a yarn” now I have a willing audience! I blog to share my stories, to give my perspective, to relieve pressure on my brain…..I blog to be heard.
2. What do you blog about? At this point I’m blogging about motherhood with a focus on raising a child with Bipolar Disorder. I’m still looking for my niche but I’m not unhappy with where I am if that makes sense. I like to experiment with different memes just to get a feel for what’s what in the blogosphere. Sporatically during the next ten months I will blogging about The Big Move and all the prep that goes with it. {Link to The New York Project Post}
3. What do you find to be the biggest reward you get from blogging? I was surprised with how much self reflection went into this! I’ve done quite a bit of soul searching with some posts, found some closure with others, and found the ability to look back at some super stressful memories and laugh at myself. Also, I have met some awesome people (you know who you are) and I have learned a lot of new things (I love to learn new things!).
4. How long have you been blogging? I just started in the beginning of May. I jumped right in with no research other than reading other blogs. I made a hasty jump from Blogger to WordPress a few weeks ago. I’m not sorry; I love WordPress, just trying to find my feet there. (Seriously if you’re a WordPress Wizard, holla).
5. Let’s hear the story behind your title? This is actually very simple. We often refer to our daughter (she is the one with Bipolar Disorder) as a hurricane. I am FEMA. You know, the emergency response team. Picking up the pieces, restoring order. I’m always saying, “We weathered another storm.” The Umbrella is a double entendre. On one hand it reflects my blog because I have so many thoughts and opinions about so many aspects of motherhood, the topics would fall under the “umbrella term” of motherhood. On the other hand, I would like my blog to be a respite of sorts, step under the “Umbrella” out of the rain…..
So, whether your new here and you were brave enough to stomach a little more of my sweet snarkiness: Welcome to:
The Motherhood Umbrella: Weathering Life’s Storms
This post contains the Nerd Mafia’s WOW. In fact if you spend a little time on my blog you will come across the WOW often. I happen to personify this WOW. For reals, check my Twitter bio.
