Raising a child with a mental illness or other disorder can make a parent feel isolated. Using the following links you will find lots of other parents who on the same journey as you, some further ahead and others just starting. You will find that it’s really not your fault and it’s okay to be angry at times. Whether you choose to find a face to face group or an online group it’s important to get support for yourself. Taking care of yourself allows you to be a whole and present parent (even though you will still wish for your happy place).

My Kid’s Bipolar,  Now What?? Is an online support group for parents of children with Bipolar Disorder. In this group you will connect with other parents for support and understanding. You have the ability to share pictures and videos as well as your own blog feed on your customizable home page. There is chat available as well as a forum that is easy to navigate. This group is my own creation and it is, like many things in my life, a work in progress.

Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance: Find a support group: (www.dbsalliance.org) Support is essential to recovery. One of the most helpful things one person can say to (or hear from) another is “I’ve been there.” Depression and bipolar disorder can be isolating illnesses, but DBSA has many ways to help connect you with others who have been there as well. DBSA offers both in-person and online support in several forms. View the links below or on the left to learn more about all of our support offerings.

The Child and Adolescent Bipolar Foundation (CABF): Through the CABF message boards, chat rooms and support groups, you can get feedback and ideas about what works and how to advocate for your child. There are many families here with lots of wisdom to share!
