Our 1st Home School Project and FMBT
What better way to kick off Home Schooling than a little science activity? I figured we’d stick with the KISS(Keep It Simple Stupid) philosophy this first time.
So we read all about vertebrates and invertebrates and then found a little project:
Here’s what the project called for:
And:
And:
She counted out 10 Wagon Wheels to represent vertebrae:
Then she counted out 9 Gummy Lifesavers to represent the shock absorbing dics:
She then laced the wagon wheels and life savers onto the pipecleaner, alternating each:
Then we compared and contrasted. How was her model like a real spine, and how was it different?

Homework Helper?
So, I’m sitting at the table with DD9, helping her work on her homework. After zipping through her math assignments, it’s time for…dun dun dun…spelling words! What will it be? Three times each? Use each word in a sentence? Or, the dreaded, ABC order?? Nope, it’s a study day. So, as she waits patiently with pencil poised above a clean sheet a paper, I begin the monotonous task of reading each word out loud so that she can print it. I get to word number 5 and decide to have a little fun (insert devilish mommy laugh here). For your reference the word is: ‘what’ and the conversation went as follows:
DD9: “Next word, mama.”
Me: “What” (hee hee)
DD9: “What is the word?”
Me: “Yes.” (lol)
DD9: “Yes, what?”
Me: “Yes.”
DD9: “No, what is the spelling word?”
Me: “Yes!”
DD9: (sighs) “Mo-om”
Me: “WHAT is the spelling word.”
DD9: “I don’t know! You’re s’posed to tell me!”
Me: “The next word is what.”
DD9: “You know what? I’ll just get Daddy to help. Daddy!”
DH: “WHAT??” (devilish mommy laugh echoes then fades out)
